The Ingredients
The Botanist Gin.
One Lisbon Lemon (a pox on anyone who uses a Meyer Lemon).
A new bottle of Dolin Dry Vermouth (a double pox on anyone who uses vermouth which has been open for more than 3 days).
Scrappy's Orange Bitters.
A Nick and Nora style cocktail glass
The Recipe
Chill the cocktail glass by filling with ice and water.
Using a sharp and high-quality peeler, peel a 2 inch by 1 inch wide oval from the lemon. Avoid retaining any white pith.
Gently pour 2.5 oz of The Botanist Gin into a cocktail shaker.
Pause. Savor the smell of the gin. Marvel at the mad genius who devised such a beverage.
Pour 0.5 oz of the vermouth into cocktail shaker.
Shake 2 drops of the bitters into cocktail shaker.
Empty your cocktail glass of the ice and water.
Gently rub the lemon peel around the rim of the glass. Place peel in glass.
Fill cocktail shaker with good, not crappy, ice.
Stir, do not shake, clockwise 13 times. Humming the Ride of the Valkyries while stirring is purely optional.
Strain contents of cocktail shaker into glass, over the lemon peel.
Pause. Anticipate. Sip.
